Rope of Silicon: 'Remember Me' Most Misunderstood Film of 2010

'Remember Me' did not make movie critic's Brad Brevet's Top 10 films of the 2010, but he did have these complimentary words. He is one of the few critics that did seem to 'get it'.

Perhaps the most misunderstood film of the year. People called the ending a "twist" which I guess means any time you're walking around your house and you stub your toe it's a twist because you didn't expect to do it. This movie presented events in a way no other film has dared to try, the same way we lived it, without knowing and without warning. And I applaud it for having the guts to do so.

Buzz Sugar's Best Movie Kisses of 2010: 'Remember Me' and 'Eclipse'

Buzz Sugar has listed their Best Movie Kisses of 2010 and Rob ranks not once but twice on the list...

Tyler & Ally, 'Remember Me'
Tyler gives Ally a morning-after kiss to remember him by.

Edward & Bella, 'Twilight Saga: Eclipse'
Bella and Edward get particularly grope-y, as she tries
to convince him to sleep with her.  We definitely didn't
see this much action in the first two Twilight films!

Film.com: 'Remember Me' Was Massively Underrated

Photobucket

Film.com is reviewing the best of 2010's films and though it did not make the Top 10 list, Laremy Legel had this to say about 'Remember Me':

Massively Underrated: Youth in Revolt / Remember Me

Youth in Revolt was an innovative comedy, but it was released during a time period where people skip the theatrical experience. And if Remember Me had featured Ryan Gosling instead of Robert Pattinson it would have been correctly hailed as great. But people got far too caught up in the ending and Pattinson's celebrity to catch that he was really freaking good in this movie. Definitely worth a watch if you you're a fan of relationship dramas.

Article: Film.com talks 'Water for Elephants'

Fangs or suspenders ... which shows off Robert Pattinson's sexy side more?

That's the question pre- and post-tween Twi-hards still swooning over Rpattz's Edward Cullen may be pondering when they glimpse set snapshots from his upcoming Great Depression-era epic Water for Elephants. Those who appreciate Pattinson for his more serious, less supernatural roles in Remember Me and Little Ashes are probably asking themselves the same question.

Whether or not you respect Pattinson's cinema presence doesn't really matter, though; there are plenty more reasons to get butterflies in your belly in anticipation of the April 2011 adaptation of Water for Elephants. Based on Sara Gruen's best-selling historical novel, it's a tale imbued with the sort of enchanted nostalgia that makes one feel like they've stepped inside a faded, sepia-tinged photograph or yellowed newspaper clipping scene and traveled back in time to tiptoe through the lives of the strangers in the pictures. Or as if they've perhaps snuck into the memories of a 93-year-old former circus veterinarian -- like the hero of Gruen's book, Jacob Jankowski.

Jacob narrates the beginning of his memoir from a nursing home as he surveys the installment of a traveling circus from his bedroom window. It stirs up memories of his youth as a 23-year-old carrying water for elephants and otherwise caring for a menagerie of circus animals during the 1930s. If that's not enough of a plot to entice you into Jankowski's circus, add to it the love triangle he forms with his married amour, the dazzling equestrian star Marlena (Reese Witherspoon), and her charismatic but brutal husband August (Christop Waltz replacing Sean Penn). (Rumor has it, in the movie August may end up being an amalgam of two of the novel's characters: August and tyrant circus owner Uncle Al.) Pile onto that paralyzed drunk pal Camel, who hides out in Jacob's train car; his ally Walter the dwarf; Rosie the marvelous and mistreated elephant; and the scandalous Coochie Girls. Set it all in the hard-knocks landscape of the Great Depression and you have the makings of a spectacularly thrilling, poignant, and romantic adventure. And not airbrushed rom-com romance, but rather love with gritty, witty, engrossing, true-to-life twists and turns that resonate like they've been lifted from the pages of your intrepid grandpa's diary.

Need more reason to add Water for Elephants to your spring movie schedule? Two words: Christoph Waltz. When the talent behind the nutty Oscar-winning Nazi from Inglourious Basterds slips on the shoes of a schizophrenic ringmaster, odds are good he'll give a show-stopping performance -- the kind that could earn him Academy Award number two. It will also be interesting to see if Pattinson holds his own with Witherspoon and if the two can make sparks fly. Water for Elephants is directed by I Am Legend's Francis Lawrence with P.S. I Love You screenwriter Richard Lagravenese penning the adapted script. So far, Water for Elephants seems like a cinema circus worth buying a ticket to see.

Robert Pattinson Ranks #6 on EW's 30 Sexiest Stars of 2010

“ROBERT PATTINSON (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) Yes, Edward’s still dreamy enough to make a girl want to turn vampire to spend eternity with him, but honestly, we’re never more drawn to Pattinson than when he’s being himself, whether it’s playfully arguing with Stewart on the Eclipse DVD commentary or going door-to-door in Chicago inviting Twihards to a taping of Oprah.”

A look back at Rob's surprise visits to the homes of fans in Chicago...

Personal note: While it is Rob, not simply the characters he portrays, whom we find sexy, let me just add that he also gave an amazing performance earlier this year in 'Remember Me', a powerful, moving, and highly underrated film to check out if you have not yet seen it.

Robert Pattinson Named To Forbes' "Hollywood's Highest-Grossing Actors in 2010"

Forbes.com In Hollywood it's all about the box office. If your film brings in big bucks, expect producers, studios and casting directors to come calling. Here are the actors whose films grossed the most in 2010. We gave each star credit for the entire global box office of each film he or she starred in. We didn't count animated movies.

For the sake of this list, we're only looking at box office gross. We looked at the earnings for the top films of the year and credited each star the entire box office. So if an actor starred in two big movies (like DiCaprio did) he got credit for both. We did not include animated films, although they were some of the top-earning of the year, because the stars aren't really the big draw for those fil

#6 Robert Pattinson
$749 million

The Twilight films have been perennial earners, so it's no surprise to see Pattinson on this list. He ranks above his costar Kristen Stewart thanks to Remember Me, a weepy romance that earned a healthy $56 million on an estimated budget of $16 million. Pattinson's next film is an adaptation of the bestselling book Water for Elephants.

Bel Ami Listed in The Notable Films of 2011

Photobucket

'Bel Ami' is included in a list of notable 2011 films compiled by Dark Horizons...

Bel Ami
Opens: 2011
Cast: Uma Thurman, Robert Pattinson, Christina Ricci, Kristin Scott Thomas
Director: Declan Donnellan, Nick Ormerod

Summary: In Belle Epoque-era Paris, a former French soldier from the lower class returns from Algeria and becomes a journalist. Through a series of affairs with well-connected women, he uses his looks and smarts to make his way up the social ladder.

Analysis: Though sharing the same name as Europe's most prestigious hardcore gay porn studio, a fact that made many a headline writer's day when "Twilight" hunk Robert Pattinson was cast, the film is actually an adaptation of acclaimed French author Guy de Maupassant's second novel in 1885. The story is familiar, a young man basically screws over and just plain screws his way into high society, yet it's also considered one of the great books of its time and remains a perennial favourite in certain countries.

A lot of the novel's appeal however is de Maupassant's legendarily efficient and involving prose, a writing style that inspired countless others from W. Somerset Maugham to Friedrich Nietzsche, and one that will be very difficult to translate to the screen. It's also very much a classic French tale, so an English adaptation will likely get a hostile reception in western Europe even if it's good - if it's sub-par then god help anyone trying to do promotion for it over there.

Adapted by newbie scribe Rachel Bennette and directed by a pair of stage production veterans making their feature debut, the London and Budapest-shot period piece will have lots of raunchy appeal that "Twilight" moms might be nervous about their daughters seeing. One major scene is an orgy sequence with Pattinson's character which one source tells the press will be "tastefully done". That scene, shot at Kent's Crossness Pumping Station, will be drenched in candlelight and lace to disguise the fact the station is living up to its name in a different way than it was designed for.

More exciting is the cast with the brilliant Thomas, Thurman and Ricci ably supporting Pattinson who seems a better fit for this kind of material than some of his other projects. He's also joined by some under appreciated great British male talent like Philip Glenister ("Life on Mars," "Ashes to Ashes"), James Lance ("Absolute Power," "No Heroics") and Colm Meaney ("Star Trek: DS9," "The Commitments"). Set photos show off some exquisite looking costume design, but no footage is yet out and a release date isn't locked. At last report it'll be hitting the UK in August which means a likely late Summer/early Fall release in the States.
