Video: Paul Giamatti Talks 'Cosmopolis' and Robert Pattinson

Earlier this week, Paul Giamatti was at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival to support his film, "Win Win," a title that also aptly describes another flick the recent Golden Globe-winner has on his horizon: "Cosmopolis."

Why is "Win Win" so fitting a description of Giamatti's participation in "Cosmopolis"? Well, he gets work with director David Cronenberg and Robert Pattinson, of course!

After Giamatti, who stood with his "Win Win" costar Bobby Cannavale, admitted he was "not sure" when production on "Cosmopolis" would come together, there was one thing that was certain: he'd get to work with the "dreamiest man alive."

"I get to stalk him," a deadpan Giamatti said of getting to work on a set with R-Pattz. While Giamatti (who also divulged to MTV about his part in the highly anticipated "Hangover 2") said he hasn't yet met Pattinson he claimed (though quite possibly tracing the slightest hint of sarcasm there) to have seen the "Twilight" films.

As Pattinson explained to MTV News recently, he signed onto the project "basically because of Cronenberg." "I said yes as soon as he called," he added. "It's scary, though. It's an interesting script."

"Cosmopolis," based on the novel of the same name by Don DeLillo, is about a billionaire asset manager (Pattinson) who has a very bizarre day in Manhattan. Marion Cotillard was originally set to play Pattinson's wife in the film, but has since dropped out of the project. Kiera Knightley is now being rumored to take over the part.

Update From The Set of 'Breaking Dawn'

Breaking Dawn Movie Release Date & Spoilers (Twilight) Pictures, Images and Photos

Cute tidbit about Mackenzie Foy (Reneesme) and the Breaking Dawn cast (Rob mention)...

"I just love the way Mackenzie lights up the room. If it’s been a long day and everyone’s tired, she shows up and you can tell the atmosphere changes. The fam scenes with Robert and Kristen will look amazing on screen. They have a special connection, you know. She looks so much like them and they enjoy working with her, so that makes it easy. They love joking around between takes. Specially with Robert, he loves using the ‘daughter’ thingy. I’ve heard he’s been teaching Mackenzie some words, with the accent and everything, so funny. Kristen has found someone to share her ‘Miley Cyrus’ obsession with. And they both love pets, so they have a lot to talk about. Cuteness everywhere. But everybody loves her, she’s pretty smart for her age. It’s good to have a kiddo on set."

MTV: Robert Pattinson Would Make An Excellent Jeff Buckley

It's not the first time that the name of one of the hottest young actors in the world has been linked to one of the most iconic musicians of the past 20 years, but it has been brought up again. The Daily Express is reporting that Robert Pattinson (star of the "Twilight" series as well as the upcoming "Water for Elephants") is lobbying hard to play late singer-songwriter Jeff Buckley in a biopic about the iconic musician's life (and one of the film's producers has acknowledged that he has indeed expressed interest, along with the likes of James Franco and Jared Leto).

Buckley, who passed away in 1997 before he could complete his second album, is a much-beloved artist whose debut album Grace is largely considered to be one of the finest of the end of the 20th century. His music was full of gorgeous melody and dynamic energy shifts that centered on his incredible, gentle voice. Though 1994's Grace is a stone cold classic as a full album, Buckley's lasting legacy in music is his version of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," which has been copied repeatedly and is largely considered the definitive version of the song (even more than Cohen's original).

Pattinson would make an excellent Buckley, as not only does he physically resemble the singer, but he also possesses the same kind of ethereal vibe that Buckley carried. His popularity was mainly rooted in his music, but he also had a mysterious quality that made him a fascinating character. Can Pattinson sing as well as Buckley? There's no evidence to suggest that he can. However, it seems like the man who breathed life into Edward Cullen can handle the moody, romantic vibe that Buckley gave off. Take a look at this performance of "Forget Her" (recorded during the Grace sessions but not released until 2004) and see if you can't picture Pattinson sliding into that role.

Of course, the other named mentioned on the short list for the role would probably work well also, though everybody else seems to be flawed in some way. Franco has probably played too many iconic roles to play Buckley (he's created so many great fictional characters that it'd be hard to accept him as playing a real person) and James Marsden (of "X-Men" fame) doesn't have that same air of mystery. Leto would probably be a good choice, as he has the musical chops to go with his left-field approach to performances.

Personally, I would LOVE to see Rob portray Jeff Buckley in the biopic. It would be an awesome opportunity for him to showcase his talent as an actor and musician. Keeping my fingers crossed.

'Cosmopolis' To Film in Both Toronto and NYC

Photobucket

The summer of 2009 was a whirlwind for OLV and the city of NYC thanks to the arrival of Robert Pattinson who was in town to shoot Remember Me.

The shoot landed us, our readers, and Robert Pattinson in the headlines for the chaos that ensued each day Rob was filming on location, and now it looks like we may be doing it all again.
We’ve already reported that Robert’s next project,Cosmopolis, is expected to begin shooting in Toronto in May, but now several news outlets are also reporting a portion of the movie will be filmed in New York City this summer too. ScreenRant, Playlist, and IMDb all now list New York as one of the movie’s filming locations!

Cosmopolis, which may also star Keira Knightly, is about newlywed billionaire Eric Packer, who awakens one morning and realizes that “he didn’t know what he wanted. Then he knew. He wanted to get a haircut.” That seemingly innocuous desire leads the cocky, adulterous young man on an odyssey across Manhattan that results in him being stalked, attacked, and losing the entirety of his fortune – all over the course of 24 hours.

Are you excited by the possibility of Rob returning to NYC?

On the heels of that announcement, there has been buzz that British acress Keira Knightley will replace her. While there has been no official confirmation as yet, her name has been added to the Cosmopolis IMDB page...

Paul Giamatti, who was also originally attached to the film, is in question as well. Hopefully more definitive casting news will be announced soon.

Why You Must Read 'Water for Elephants' Before You See The Film Adaptation

If you have not read Sara Gruen’s Water for Elephants we suggest you go get your hands on a copy immediately. This enthralling tale tells the story of a young man as he loses everything he has ever known during the Great Depression of the 1930′s in America.

The protagonist of the book, Jacob Jankowski, leaves all that he has and through a bizarre series of events finds himself working for the Benzini Brothers traveling circus. The book tells Jacob’s story as he remembers it at the age of 93. A story of adventure, friendship, betrayal, loss and love, this book will truly capture your heart.

Gruen’s writing is eloquent and precise and she does an incredible job of creating vivid mental images of what a 1930′s circus was like. This is truly one of those novels that you will not want to put down. The book received so much critical acclaim that it was recently made into a film adaptation which is currently in post production and set to be released on April 15, 2011.
